2021: love, like, maybe ...

 I trust you had a fabulous Monday and that your week is off to a great start

Here we are on day two of our LOVE journey

And today’s topic is surrounding that very word – LOVE

But, as shared in a quote yesterday, ‘there is no easier word’ than LOVE

 When I was first dating [many, many years ago], I had a boyfriend who was Hispanic

And, whenever he wanted to say ‘I love you’, he would say ‘Te Quiero’

There are many dialects and influences to the Spanish language –

And some people do use that phrase to say ‘I love you’

Some others use ‘te adoro’ and others use ‘te amo’

Therefore, any time my boyfriend would use ‘Te quiero’ to say ‘I love you’,

I would point out to him that saying ‘te quiero’ and saying ‘te amo’ were not the same

Spanish is not my primary language – I learned it in school

However, I will try my best to explain this as relates to my situation

The phrase ‘te quiero’ comes from the verb ‘querer’ – to want

While the phrase ‘te adoro’ come from the verb ‘adorar’ – to adore

And the final phrase ‘te amo’ comes from the verb ‘amar’ – to love

Very different meanings if taken at face value and with literal interpretation.

 

Hindsight being 20/20, I believe that individual was stating what he truly felt –

And what he was truly saying was, ‘I want you’

Renowned poet Maya Angelou is quoted as saying, 

          “If someone shows you who they are … BELIEVE THEM!”

I am teasing but being honest at the same time & we are still acquaintances to this day

But, wanting someone and loving someone are two completely different things

                                                 

Now – I am not sharing all of this to give a lesson in grammar

I am sharing it to illustrate a point –

‘Love’ does not mean the same thing to all people – linguistically or emotionally

And I believe a great many people have been tripped-up and hurt because of this

Therefore, it is so important to really think about what love means to you;

It is equally important to understand what love means to someone else;

Whether you are saying ‘I love you’ or whether those words are being spoken to you

It could be 'love', it could be 'like', or it could be something else entirely

LOVE 2020: IT'S ABOUT LOVE ...

Hello Friends

I do not normally do two posts in one day –

However, I had to run to the store this evening,

And, bless their hearts – the store was full of me,

Trying to find just the right Valentine’s Day gifts

The right card, sweets, flowers, balloons, chocolate-dipped strawberries

                You name and they were trying to grab it up

I felt bad for them … I mean, I could see the stress on their faces

One poor guy walked right away from the register and left his phone

SO – it made me feel a second post was warranted today

                One that reminds all of us that IT IS ABOUT LOVE!

NOW – I know I am probably the last one that should say it;

                What with all the fuss I make

HOWEVER – my fuss is always about the love associated with Valentine’s Day

                Not necessarily the commercialism

My heart was a little sad because I know some of those guys,

                Are still going to end up in an argument tomorrow,

                Because they bought flowers but didn’t send them to her job

                Because they bought chocolates but she’s on a diet

                Because they didn’t take her out for dinner

                Because they didn’t plan an evening in and cook dinner

THAT IS NOT WHAT IT IS ABOUT FOLKS –

And, since I am a lady, I would like to talk to the ladies for a moment.

This is not a contest with your girlfriends or co-workers,

                So you can brag on everything he did for Valentine’s Day

It is also not fair to get your feelings hurt …

especially if you did not take steps to make an equal fuss over him

Guess What? MEN LIKE LOVE, APPRECIATION and GIFTS TOO!

Just saying …

And, if you have not gotten him something,

spend the evening coming up with something.

There is a neat little company called Man Crates –

Now – it is too late to get anything for tomorrow;

However – you could make your own ‘Man Crate’, 

          filling it with his favorite beverages and snacks

Homemade coupons are always nice … get creative!

How about you cook him a meal – or the two of you cook a meal together and stay in?

Does he like golf? A gift certificate to a local golf course is a great idea!

Does he like firearms? A membership to a nice range is an excellent gift.

And these things do not have to be done tomorrow – because it’s Valentine’s Day

There are a thousand ways to show love and appreciation

Valentine’s is just an extra day to demonstrate the love –

The love we should be should be showing one another all year long

And, over the next couple of weeks 

     – YES THE POSTS WILL CONTINUE PAST VALENTINE’S DAY –

     We’ll be talking about some of those ideas – that do not involve purchasing anything

In the meantime …

THANKS GIVING 2019: Happy Thanksgiving!

Good Morning Friends!

Gobble, gobble, gobble – 

These words resonate in my ears every Thanksgiving

It is what my Auntie Barb always says every Thanksgiving Day

And she always sounds SO CUTE & joy bubbling out of her ... like it always does

ME –

I am up early and have not slept most of the evening;

Cooking, cooking, cooking!

But, I absolutely LOVE to cook so it is a pleasure

I am also up praying that your day is off to a great start –

That this Thanksgiving Day 2019 will be a joy-filled one;

And that if you are traveling this Thanksgiving Holiday – that you will be safe

THANKSGIVING is such a special day

HOWEVER – 

This is not where our giving of thanks begins … or where it should end

I hope during this series, that we have discovered –

WE HAVE SO MANY REASONS TO BE THANKFUL

EVERY DAY – there is something which should cause us to GIVE THANKS;

EVERY SEASON – should be a time for THANKSGIVING

COUNTLESS REASONS – abound, reminding us WE ARE BLESSED & SHOULD BE GRATEFUL

Let us not allow our heart of gratitude be relegated to a season or a day

Let us GIVE THANKS every day!

I am so thankful for you this morning!
